Concept and Performance Analysis of Propulsion Units Intended for Distributed Ship Systems

Limited navigation depth, especially on inland waterways, is one of the main limiting factors that shorten period. Distributed propulsion systems represent an opportunity to increase navigability ships across critical sections waterways characterized by limited depth. In case distributed systems, it necessary examine position propellers and their efficiency, suitable design, interaction with surroundings. this study, self-propelled units located side ship are investigated at level computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analyses. Seven different types ducts considered for proposed propeller geometry in order ensure water supply, prevent air intake, high performance serial arrangement propulsors hull. Comparative analyses have shown Ducts 5 6 sufficient resistance ventilation a depth deliver acceptable low inflow outflow rates. This feature important configurations, which confirms previous research issue. Performance can be further increased reducing duct higher speeds.
